The Boy With No Socks

Yes, again...two posts in one day!
If you are looking for the Tablescape Thursday post, click HERE.
But now, it's Writer's Workshop time!
I chose Prompt 5:
Write a poem to your love for Valentine’s Day. :)

Now for the disclaimer...
Please be gentle...I tried...I am not a poet...I never write poems...
OK, I will admit I did write a poem or two in high school and college...
mostly about how I didn't have a boyfriend...
but I am not sure those count? Do they?
And, back to the disclaimer...I am not romantic at all!
So a poem to my love for Valentine's Day is almost unimaginable...
You could even say I fall into the
unromantic/forget your b'day/forget your anniversary guy category.
Here goes!

The Boy With No Socks
I only wanted to see a "Circle of Friends."
There was supposed to be a group...
The group became four...
Oh how I wanted the night to end!

I knew nothing about you
Just that you were from Florida.
And then I noticed no socks!
And thought Miami Vice is O-V-E-R!

Early the next a.m.,
The phone began to ring.
First you...HUH?
Then my friend...with a warning...
{too late!}

You wooed me
with Pulp Fiction and Crimson Tide.
I am a tough nut to crack.
To make me laugh...you tried...

Many more calls and the response
"I must clean my apartment tonight."
More calls...ugh!
Clearly you were not quite "right!"

Then finally, a realization...
A nice boy!
What to do?
Better learn quick before she shoos!

As you would tell me later,
I was on my last leg...
One last call, one last chance
To try and crack this egg.

Finally, I gave in!
I married the boy with no socks,
And now, two kids later,
And a new last name that's full of rocks!
That's it...
I cannot promise, but mostly likely, no more poems from me.
I'll leave that to Matty!

  1. Cute poem!

I thought from your title this would be about how there are never socks to be found in your house. That's how we roll here. ;)

  2. That's so cute! I love how you told your story in your poem. It's interesting how we sometimes fall for people who don't catch us right in the beginning.

  3. really cute poem!

I liked the way you told your story!

  4. I too thought it was about no socks around...LOL..but in actuality it is fantastically written..Loved it..!I think you may have a hidden talent..!

  5. Really sweet - you didn't need the disclaimer! Love the Miami Vice referrence! I think there may be a true poet hiding in there somewhere!

  6. I tried and failed miserably to write a poem! I loved yours!

  7. I like your poem a lot! But I can't believe you call yourself unromantic! You have designed some very romantic tablescapes in the past few weeks.

  8. Holly.....Wow!

I am impressed. It isn't the content that counts, it's the intent. And in this case, the content is heartfelt because it tells us your story. Bravo!

And Happy Valentine's Day to both of you.

  9. Your poem is creative and funny, and I like the ending.

  10. Oh so cute poem. Enjoyed it!

  11. What a lovely Valentine's gift! LOVE it!!
