This is one of those projects that may not get
me in the Crafting Hall of Fame
(is there even one of those...there must be!)
but it did get my in the
Mommy Hall of Fame...
and that is much more important!
My son recently celebrated his tenth birthday, and for the first time wanted very few decorations, etc. - I was reminded "I am going to be ten! I don't need that stuff anymore."
I was telling hm how important the tenth birthday was, and something must have clicked because, when I was brainstorming about what I was going to make with the
Styrofoam sheet and DecoArt's MagicKote and
he said "How about a big 10!"
Good thinking, my boy...so I did.

I have worked with Styrofoam balls and cones a lot but not a whole lot with sheets and cutting things out...so this project had a learning curve for me - not hard to do, just getting used to it.

I must add that I was also in a hurry...but you know what he loves this!
SUPPLIES
  • Styrofoam Sheet
  • DecoArt MagicKote
  • Paint brush (I used an old Purdy paint brush - my crafts deserve a great brush too...just like my walls)
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic paint, Bahama Blue
  • DecoArt Glamour Dust Fine Glitter Paint,
  • Styrofoam cutting tool
  • Rockler Bench cookies
  • Number template (printed off my computer...see DIY IT!)
  • I also found it useful to have a metal ruler or L-Square, straight pins, a cutting mat, , toothpicks/skewers and Styrofoam glue.

Optional:
  • Photos
  • Cardstock
  • Krylon Spray Adhesive
  • Party Flag Insert dies fro Lifestyle Crafts (used with Epic 6 Machine)
  • Sticker (scrapbook) numbers
  • Die cuts, ribbon for decorating.

DIY IT!
Go check out the full tutorial at The DIY Club
DIY Club

Cut around the numbers

      Apply MagicKote

        Paint all over. Let dry.
          • So you want to see the difference the MagicKote makes ( I totally stole this idea from The DIY Show Off).
          • On the left is without any MagicKote...on the right is with MagicKote. SO much easier to paint with MagicKote!

          To finish it off...
          • I printed out one photo of my sweet boy from each birthday.
          • I backed the photo with card stock and slipped a skewer in between the layers.
          • I used Krylon Spray Adhesive to attach this.
          • I also used the party flag insert dies that go with my Lifestyle Crafts Epic 6 Letterpress Machine, and cut out a variety of shapes and then added the birthday number to correspond to the photo.
          • I also added some trim and ribbon to dress it up!

It seems complicated but it is really pretty simple...and even if it was complicated I would do it again and again...Joe loved his display and was so proud to show everyone.

Have you crafted any special birthday surprises lately?

            GIVEAWAY CLOSED
            Hi all
Hope everyone had a great LLL-OOO-NNN-GGG weekend.
I think I am still on Saturday!
Oh this summer schedule is really messin' with my motivation.
But I had to share this awesome giveaway with you!
And quite frankly it was so awesome it put a smile on my face!
As you may or may not already know I have a background in the fashion industry and I L-O-V-E clothes (and all pretty things). So, I was giddy when presented with the opportunity to review a few pieces from the Fresh Produce Clothing line. I was familiar with the Fresh Produce line already but when I looked through the website I did a little happy dance. The colors and styles are just fun, fabulous, and perfect for my life.

I must mention I am fairly picky about my clothing. I refuse to spend money on junk anymore. I really look for quality clothing and if I can find something made in the U.S.A - wooo-whooo - there's a winner!

When my package of Fresh Produce items arrived, the first thing I notice was the high quality of the garments - great fabric, great stitching, great color - the clothing all just felt good (hope that makes sense). It felt like like quality. YEAH! You can read the super fun story of how the company began here!

The clothing also has a great fit. I am no model and I am not a model size (and no one in my family can take a photo - so bear with me on the shots of me), and the clothing fit true to the size guide and was comfortable.

Fresh produce carries a vast array of styles, colors, and prints. All of the garments I was sent were also made in the U.S.A too! Such a huge plus in my mind. Here is a sampling...

The capris are a staple for me in warm weather. I was sent the Swing Capri to try out and it is a fabulous pant with great stitching detail and a wider leg. So darn cute. I want more!
            *********************
You know how hard it is to find a great tank...not anymore. Fresh Produce has a great selection of tanks and camis. I wore the Soft Sheen Tank in this gorgeous sea glass color under my black maxi dress and it was perfect...a great vibrant color, quality knit, a great fit - it did not ride up...in fact it hugged the body perfectly!

            *********************
Now, I-love-me-a-tunic! I have a mini collection of tunics...Fresh Produce did not disappoint me...in fact, I almost squealed when I saw the prints and colors and style available in their tunics. I was sent the Floral Fancy Tunic in sea glass and loved the fit, tie detailing at the neck..and the PRINT is so pretty!
My helper...she had to get in on the act!
            *********************
The Fresh Produce selection of short sleeve tops is beautiful! From simple v-necks to prints to ruffles -they have it all! The float above top is feminine and pretty and accentuates all the right places...
and this is the fabulous garment you have the opportunity to win for your summer wardrobe!

I am interested in hearing what other thought?
For me - too James Bond-ish.
              Too much blowing things up.
              Too much stupid bathroom humor.
              Too much Mater.
              I was expecting more...

I have a little thing for weird objects that I can turn into amazing (at least I think so) projects. I adore those faux Bundt pans (I think) technically I have to call these beauties ring shaped fluted cake pans...because Bundt is a trademarked name!) you see all the time at the thrift store...If they have a cool shape or color I pick them up and use them as "vases" for centerpiece displays and planters....but recently I had another idea...which never quite got finished in time...but it morphed into this idea...
a napkin and or utensil caddy.
(or an art caddy...or anything  you want!)

              SUPPLIES
              • Faux Bundt pan or ring shape fluted cake pan
              • Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Primer
              • Krylon Chalkboard Paint
              • Rockler Sanding Bug
              • Drill and drill bit
              • Multi-Purpose Wire, Dand-o-line green (I used a heavy duty wire so I could form a nice handle...there are other options. I bought this at the hardware store).
              • Wire Cutters
              • Twine/ribbon/strips of fabric
              • Chalk

This is a super easy project!
You just need to clean it.

Drill a couple of holes, and sand it.

              Prime it!

              Paint it.

              Attache a handle!

              Decorate it!

I decide to use this as a napkin caddy because I like to use cloth napkins as much as possible, and it makes a cute presentation! And it is so easy to pack up and move around!

You could use this for so many other thing too - condiments, silverware (with some mason jars tucked inside)...and of course my still all time favorite as a centerpiece.

Do you have a favorite hint or tip for entertaining?
