As a child, coloring was my favorite activity. My parents knew how to make me happy - bring me a nice big box of Crayola Crayons! The first thing I did every-single-time I got new crayons was to organize them all by color. I still remember how excited that made me.

This holiday season, as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias®
I purchased a new #IntelTablet to experience the power of Intel Inside.

When I leave my house in the morning, I NEVER can predict what the day may hold. I usually have a tote bag full of "things." to get me through the day...but that is getting "old." I want to streamline  and organize my schedule and daily activities, as well as have the possibility of on-the-go blogging or writing...or playing! For that reason, I have had my eye on a tablet...and Android Tablet to be specific.

Streamline Your Routine with #IntelTablet #shop by 504 Main

I never thought of myself as a gadget girl. The words "why would anyone need that?" may have even come out of my mouth a time or two. But I will happily admit when I am wrong. Over the last few years I have embraced technology and ALL it has to offer (OK, I have a thing or two to learn still).

My love of computers, devices, and "smart" things has grown and grown. But until recently I had not found my tech BFF. I wanted - needed - something that could integrate all the complex and layered aspects of my crazy daily routine in one place.

I have a confession...I have never on-my-own cooked a turkey.
I always leave it to my hubby.
Well that all changed this week when I headed out to Save Mart Supermarket
to shop their BOGO deal. My kids and I are always on the go and
the mix-and-match meat sale allowed me to grab a great deal on some of
their favorite meal "must haves." Better yet, these cuts of meat were hearty...
so they allowed me to cook up a meal, have some left overs...
and to whip up a batch of tamales.
Turkey and Cranberry Tamales by 504 Main #FreshFinds

My kiddos go crazy for tamales!
They have been asking and asking for me to make some, and this presented the perfect opportunity for me to try one of my unique tamale concoctions - I just love trying unusual, non-traditional ingredients in my tamales. So, I figured...it is almost Thanksgiving...
how about some Turkey Cranberry Tamales - oh yeah...yummy!

Now...for your purists...this is my version of a tamale, not necessarily a traditional tamale...but we LOVE it! And so do the guests I serve them too!
Every time I tell people I make tamales they look at my like I am crazy.
I had always heard how time consuming tamales were,
but I really don't have that feeling when I make them...so go for it!

As a mom, I am always looking for ways to incorporate fruits and vegetables into meals and snacks for my kids (and heck for me and my hubby too!). DOLE Pineapple - in all forms, crushed, chunks, and slices - is actually a pantry staple in our house. We add it to pizzas, broccoli slaw salads, desserts - you name it!

Beyond pineapple, my kids LOVE the DOLE Mandarin Oranges...
Like as in they could eat an entire can each...every day.
I was super exited when I was presented with the opportunity
to try out this yummy recipe from DOLE.

The Classic Mandarin Orange Salad combines so many of my favorite flavors...
I knew this would be a hit, with the star of the show being the Mandarin Oranges (that is how I am going to get my kiddos to try it..lure them in with the Mandarin Oranges!)

First I headed out to pick up some Mandarin Oranges at Safeway. I was very fortunate that I got to shop alone (in the summer! Thank yo Molly for hanging out with my kiddos!). I headed to the larger Safeway in my area. I always like to see what is being offered over their. I went looking for the Canned Fruit aisle right away.

I got super lucky...it was Buy One Get one Free if you had the club card!
I am stocking up on Mandarin Oranges and Pineapple...
and trying the #TropicalFruit for the first time!
Later in the week, I invited Molly (my super helpful friend!)
over and we all had Classic Mandarin Orange Salad for lunch.
I really liked this salad.
It is fresh and tangy, and full of good for you ingredients.
I eat salads a lot and I like to mix a lot of different ingredients together, so I was pleasantly surprised with salty, savory, and sweet combination of flavors.

DOLE Classic Mandarin Orange Salad

INGREDIENTS
1 Package DOLE Spinach or other DOLE salad variety
1 Can )11 or 15 ox.) DOLE Mandarin Oranges
1/2 Sliced Ripe Olives
1/2 cup chopped DOLE red onion
1/2 cup light balsamic vinaigrette
1/4 crumbled feta cheese

MAKE IT!
This recipe is pretty simple and packs a big punch!
And takes on a few minutes to prepare!

Combine spinach, onions, mandarin oranges, and olive sin a large serving bowl.

Toss with the balsamic vinaigrette and top with the crumbled feta cheese.

Now ENJOY!

I liked the flavors of this salad a lot and  also had a few ideas for experimenting with it...perhaps a crunch of some toasted sunflower seeds or crunchy Chinese noodles.

Be sure to check out more great recipes from DOLE!

So, what do you think?
Do you like fruit in your salads...if you have not tried it you should!

When it comes time for holidays at our house,
I strive to make each holiday special for my kids.
We do not live near our families and I want to create memories
and traditions for my kids that will last forever.

Of course, that does not always mean I get super elaborate
or go over the top, but it does mean incorporating items they love,
letting them help decorate or cook, and creating a special table for our meal...
even if it is just the four of us.

We love a good egg hunt at our house.
Long after Easter has come and gone...
the eggs are still here...and I mean long after...
as in we are still hiding and finding eggs in August.
And, I am OK with that.

When it comes time for the egg hunt, the Easter Bunny and Santa are in cahoots! They leave my kids a treasure map and send them on a journey to find trinkets and books, and of course eggs and other goodies. One thing my kids expect to find is a toothbrush...yeah, seriously, each of them get a toothbrush for these special occasions.

I love to change up the look of my rooms for each season.
Just a bit mind you...small changes have big impact.
An infusion of new accent color,
a new accessory,
or rearranging the furniture
make a room feel fresh and clean and new.
The Fresh Accents look perfect accompanying the bright yellow daffodils
as the centerpiece of the living room table!
When I create a plan for or design or freshen up a room, I want to create an entire experience, from the floor (working on finding a new rug) to the ceiling, and that means everything, including the senses. I love walking into a room and having a complete experience, and the right scent can do just that.

Scents have meaning.
They relax us.
They invigorate us.
They transport us to a special place.
Wouldn't it be nice for your home to give that experience to your guests?
I use books all over my house as decor. Here I added a wire cloche
(picked for for a bargain!) atop the book...
with a touch of sunshine under it!
With this in mind, I decided a wanted to give my home a signature scent for Spring!
I headed over to shop for Renuzit at Safeway.
I was looking for the Renuzit Fresh Accents.
The aisle was easy to find!
And, so were the Fresh Accents...
I had two scents to choose from After The Rain and Raspberry.
Shopping for the Renuzit at Safeway was super easy. I had to hit the "bigger" Safeway a couple of towns over, but it was worth it...I scored my #FreshAccents in "After the Rain" scent. It is fresh and clean and just what I was looking for. I made sure to use my coupon (yeah!) and then headed home to try it out.

You can grab a coupon on Renuzit's Facebook Page!
You can read all about my shopping experience HERE!

Not only do these beauties have a pleasing scent...
they are oh so pretty.
You get 2 for 1 with Fresh Accents!
The 2 different but complimentary sides are GORGEOUS!

The Fresh Accents compliment my mini living room makeover to perfection,
just
gorgeous in fact!

The Mini Makeover
I have an eclectic mix of decor - touches of new, vintage, romantic and modern combine to match my home's personality! I have "my loves" out on display already, so I generally leave those out...forever! What I am looking to do with each season is to brighten up the room with color to match the season.
A vintage ceramic chick lives harmoniously alongside
Fresh Accents in "After the Rain," some vintage books, and a milk glass pedestal bowl.

I just finished painting my living room, transitioning from a very cool purple color to a new neutral and fresh hue. Don't get me wrong I adore my purple, but now that my walls were more neutral I felt like I could play with  colors a bit more.

Here is the former look of the room:

Here is the NEW room:

My "old" color palette had accents of red. I tend to be drawn to red all the time and thought for Spring, for my fresh start,
I would punch  the red and neutrals up with yellows.

The neutral base (couch and walls) of my living room, allowed me the freedom to use a combination of patterns and colors. I love the way my floral pillows look with the pleated yellow ones and I even managed to sneak in a couple purple pillows!

I used what I had to complete my mini makeover, but I did make some new art.
I used to have big old white branch with crystals...hubby has never understood it...he will be so happy to see it temporarily relocated. This current art is very similar to my spray painted canvas I did last week...I used a slightly different technique
(I will share that this weekend).
I have been debating whether or not to paint my fireplace for some time, but am loving the addition of the white and khaki canvases on the brick...I may just leave it alone...
for now!

Of course, fresh fruits and fresh flowers really make it feel like Spring to me.
There were some gorgeous Spring flowers at Safeway...at a great price,
but I was drawn to the Daffodils.
What better way to get a pop of vibrant yellow than lemons and daffodils!
The best way to save money when planning your own mini room makeover...

1 - A good cleaning - it does wonders!
I felt like I had a new room once I did a VERY thorough cleaning. It also helps prep the room for the addition of your Fresh Accents too! Now the scent can truly be enjoyed!

2 - Shop your own house!
Sometimes just moving a few things around makes a world of
difference and gives the room a new focal point or perspective.
I paired "old" pillows with new, added a throw I already had, placed some of my milk glass under a cloche with fresh flowers, and mixed and matched a few pieces from around the house - it all looks new in a new "home."

3 - Think about how to create a complete environment. What will guest see from all angles? Are the pillows comfy? Is there a throw in case of a chill in the air (it is always chilly here - so that is a necessity!)? Will you be playing music?
What will all of their senses remember about the room?
What are sights, smells, and sounds of your home?
Adding a fresh, pleasing scent is an easy way to create ambiance.
Combine all of this and it makes for the total experience.

My living room is really benefiting from the little bit of sunshine.
So what about you...do you refresh your rooms with the seasons?
Head over to the Renuzit Facebook Page not only can you get a cool coupon for a Fresh Accent (I used mine for sure!) and you can hang out with Gorgeous Man...
and really who needs an excuse for that?

Oh yeah those holidays are sneaking up on me...on our family!
Thanksgiving is typically a weird holiday for us.
My family - just the four of us - are usually alone for the day.
Because of that I really include the kids in the experience, making the food and decorating the table. Yep, I leave them to the decor and the ideas. Usually the ideas are things to help us remember what and who we are thankful for, like our family.
A few years ago, my son was really fascinated by Native American symbols, so we made a tablecloth with his favorite symbols and then added in all of the family names. He loved it...and I still have it, but this year, I thought we would go for something a little more subtle, and something we could set out now and leave out.

When I was first deciding on what to create for my Elmer's #GlueNGlitter project, I instantly thought of using plate joining biscuits - I do love them...and, yes, I was totally thinking they look like turkey feathers!

I went from there...and I had a couple of ideas in mind...

...(DESIGN 1) The first idea was to go really simple and streamlined with a touch of metallic feathers in the corner and using the same "printable" in the frame.

...(DESIGN 2) The next idea was to do a frame with the feathers in pretty colors all around it and add a printable of the names to the inside of the frame.

...(DESIGN 3)The final idea was to write the name of each family member on one of the feathers, with the simple sentiment of "family" in the frame. By leaving this frame out we - the kids and I - can talk about each family member every day if we want and remember why we are thankful for our family. I liked it, but also had some other ideas too.

Any of the frame options are pretty simple and can be done quickly and the kids can help if you want...or they can even make their own!  Some Elmer's Painters Markers, and some Elmer's CraftBond products will help make the frame pretty and finish it off.

SUPPLIES:

  • Plain frame. You can use any frame - I happened to have a plain wood craft frame on hand (these are about $1.00 at the store). I used an oval and a square frame for these projects
  • 24 Plate Joining Biscuits - these can be found at all hardware stores. The smaller stores usually have smaller packs. (these biscuits have a texture and it will show through the paint, but it never bothers me...the effect is worth it.) NOTE: You can also cut similar shapes from foam board or chip board, and then the surface will be smooth.
  • Elmer's Painters Markers - Craft
  • Elmer's Painters Markers, open stock, Metallic Gold
  • Elmer's CraftBond Wood Craft Glue
  • Elmer's Disappearing Purple Glue Stick
  • Small paintbrush
  • Decorative paper
  • Chipboard letters or alphabet stickers (I cut mine on an electronic cutter)

MAKE IT for ALL DESIGNS
The DIY for any of the three options is the same up to a certain point...

1.  Prep your frame by removing glass (if any - the inexpensive craft frames usually do not come with glass) and sanding/cleaning the frame.

2.  Prepare you Painters by depressing the tip a few times to load the paint - do this on a scrap piece of paper.

3.  You are not really going to see the frame all that much on Designs 2 and 3, but you will on Design 1. Idid this for all of the frames because I feel it finished it off. I used the Painters Markers in brown to draw straight  - but not perfectly straight - lines with a swirl here and there to mimic a wood grain look (it is not supposed to look totally realistic - just hint at a woodsy feel). You do not need to follow a pattern, etc. - this is super easy and there is not a "wrong" way to do it.

4.  Once the front of the frame is complete, I used the Painters Markers (brown) to color the inside opening of the frame.

5.  For me the frame still needed a little something. I used an ink pad in Walnut Brown to distress the frame and give it some depth (you could use a wood stain or gel -too). I rubbed the outer edge and all over the frame. It can get a little messy (can you tell by the smudges on my white background?), so be careful.

6.  Layout the biscuits on the frame to get an idea of how many you need -

DESIGN 1:
12 biscuits were used here, 3 in each corner

DESIGN 2 and 3:
24 worked for the size of frame I was using. Place a biscuit at 12,3, 6, and 9 to get an idea of placement and then fill in the spaces from there.

7.  After determining the approximate number of biscuits you need, use the Painters Markers to color them.

DESIGN 1:
I colored all 12 biscuits with the Painters Markers, Gold Metallic

DESIGN 2 and 3:
I choose to use three colors (yellow, purple, and orange) for the biscuits. color 8 of each color. It was super easy to paint the biscuits this way - I just colored them all over. Even the texture of the biscuit was no match for the Painters - perfect coverage!

8.  All DESIGN, run the edges of the biscuits through your ink pad (or paint with the Painters Marker). Let dry.

9.  Once your placement is right, begin gluing using the CraftBond Wood Craft Glue.

DESIGN 1:
Place 3 biscuits in each corner, one on the cut line and the other 2 matching up at the corner point.

DESIGN 2 and 3:
Place the 12,3,6,and 9 biscuits first, and then fill in.

10. Let dry overnight. Then touch up any areas you may have missed with the Painters Markers or ink pad.

11.  Print out your family name printable (I just used Word and wrote each first name with "..." after it and then cut/pasted it until I had a full page; select a font; print), cut to size, and glue "family" or "Thanks" letters on to it with a Disappearing Purple Glue Stick; Insert into frame.

You are done with DESIGN 1 or 2!
To finish up DESIGN 3:
Write everyone's names on the petals, "freehand." or you can print out the names on a computer and cut feathers smaller than the biscuits and glue them on. Depending on the colors you choose for the feathers, some of the words maybe harder to read. For example, I tried white paint for the names, but it was hard to read on the yellow. It is a design thing, you need to decide what you like.

NOTE: Also, the biscuits have a texture, so writing can be tricky. If you use a different material for the feathers, it would be easier to write directly on them.
DESIGN 3!

DESIGN 2

DESIGN 1

I really looking forward to sitting with the kids and listening to them tell when why they are thankful for these people and other little stories and insights.
