Disney Princess Celebration: The Little Mermaid Viewing Party

The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney Princess and I was thrilled to throw a party and write this sponsored post for Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community to celebrate The Little Mermaid.

I was a teenager when The Little Mermaid was released.
But I went and saw it in the theaters. I loved it!
Then I purchased the VHS tape...
then I purchased the cassette soundtrack...
and then my friend gave me a Sebastian watch for Christmas.
Yes, The Little Mermaid - Ariel - is my favorite Disney Princess EVER!
My daughter loves Ariel too!

At this house we are always looking for "excuses" to have a party.
A Little Mermaid viewing party was the perfect reason to invite
a few girls over to play with the new Ariel dolls,
watch the movie, and enjoy some "Under the Sea" cupcakes.

I had to borrow The Little Mermaid DVD
(I still have my VHS tape...but no VHS player)...
but on October 1,
The Little Mermaid
Collectors Edition Blu-Ray/DVD
will be available at Walmart!
You know I will be there bright and early!

Before the party, Jules and I went on a shopping trip to Walmart.
We needed to purchase some party supplies and
select some very special Disney Princess toys for this party.
We purchased the Transforming Ariel and Baby Ariel
(which she has been asking for for months and months).
I love everything about The Little Mermaid and Flounder and Sebastian...
so I there was a happy mom and a happy kiddo!

On the party day, Baby Ariel and Transforming Ariel were there to enjoy the party with the girls!. Baby Ariel is so sweet...but Transforming Ariel is the star of the show - she can change from a Mermaid to Princess and back again by pulling on her dress (genius!)...and she sings. The girls also managed to find our other Disney Princess dolls too so that everyone could play.

I can go overboard on parties, but decided to keep this party perfectly, simply sweet.
I decorated with some blue and green ruffled streamers to mimic kelp,
a simple table overlay, and some (re-purposed) pinwheels
(I just took the liberty of thinking Ariel would love pinwheels).

Since our party was after school, I made sure to have some snacks for the kids...and of course we had goldfish crackers, macaroni and cheese shells, salt water taffy, grapes, and pineapple.

After the snack, we had a simple activity for the children.
My daughter has been obsessed with making paper bag puppets,
so I pulled out the supplies to make Little Mermaid inspired puppets.
Each child, armed with crayons, markers, scissors, and glue
could make their own Little Mermaid, Flounder, Sebastian...
or even Ursula puppet.

I love this activity because it requires very few supplies
(you probably have a lot of them on hand already)
and it brings out their creativity!

Then it was movie time!
The Little Mermaid.
All eyes on the big TV!

After the movie, the girls enjoyed "Under the Sea" cupcakes.
I placed each cupcake in a waffle cone
(I thought it looked a little like a shell),
and then simply frosted and decorated them with a collection of sprinkles,
including one that looked like sea glass!

And to top it off, each cupcake had its own
"Dinglehopper!"
(aka a fork!)
A few of the adults looked at me funny...
but the girls all understood what the fork was doing upside down in the cupcake!

  4. Gosh, I gotta watch this movie again - other than the "classics" that I grew up watching, this one has to be my favorite "modern" Disney movie. My daughter was 3 when this movie came out {she'll soon be 28!}, and has loved it ever since... we bought her the big Little Mermaid doll (as a collector item) last Christmas!
