Bingo Marker Spoon Pendant (Jewelry Tutorial)

I love crazy funky jewelry...
and if that jewelry involves something odd -
something not jewelry like - all the better!
I started making some spoon jewelry about 8 months ago
and LOVE using the flattened spoons as a base for a pendant.
jewelry from spoons

I used to make jewelry all the time...and really enjoyed it.
I am so excited to start doing it again!
I had not shared these beauties because...because I am so behind...
but this week I am participating in Spring Bling Week with some other fun bloggers...
so now is the perfect time to share.

Best yet, you can totally customize this jewelry to suit your style...
I have made some with keys, costume jewelry, fabric, buttons, and gorgeous paper!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Nests with Reese's Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Eggs

When it comes to Easter treats...I need chocolate -
no jelly beans - no malted things - just chocolate
and if it has peanut butter even better!

Surprisingly I have not eaten every single one of these cookies...
I have a weakness - an edible and sentimental one for Reese's.
First, I plain love them!
Second, I know to this day I can go to my parents house
and there will be ice cold Reese's Peanut Butter Cups in the refrigerator.

Chocolate chip cookie

I am in charge of cookies for the Bunny Brunch coming up at my daughter school...and my daughter had some grand ideas about what she wanted me to make (seriously where do they get these ideas!?)...but instead I made these and she loves them..I love them..we all love them...and they are EASY!

Spicy Carrot Hummus (recipe)

I seriously love hummus.
I have long made my own hummus
I can control the balance of flavors to my liking
(although I do head to Trader Joe's to grab their hummus in a pinch!).
Recently I have decided to play with flavors even more,
and my first creations is...
Spicy Carrot Hummus

Many, many months ago I saw a recipe for Spiced Carrot Hummus with Garlic Oil on Daily Bites Blog. I printed it out, made it, and fell in love. I have made it many many times since then to rave reviews. Trust me..it is good. But I wanted me own variation, my own twist..
so here it is...

INGREDIENTS
1 pound carrots
1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
3 Tablespoons Tahini
3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
2 Tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice
3-4 cloves of garlic, minced (you can always add more if you like garlic!)
2 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon dry ground mustard seed
1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon red cayenne pepper
Special Equipment:
Food processor or good (high horsepower) blender

 MAKE IT
  • Steam the carrot for 20-25 minutes. They need to be steamed past fork tender to blend easier. I left the peels on and just chopped the top of the carrot off. You can peel them if you would like.
  • Drain and rinse the chickpeas.
  • Place the chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, chili powder, dry mustard, cayenne pepper, and cumin in the food processor/blender and blend until thoroughly combined and smooth.
  • When carrots are done cooking, add them to the mixture in the food processor/blender
  • NOTE/TIP: Reserve some of the cooking liquid in case the mixture gets too thick and some liquid needs to be added to the mixture. You can also use small amounts of olive oil as well.
  • NOTE: If you want it spicier, you can adjust the spices to your liking. Also...be sure to head to Daily Bites - hers has curry in it for a different flavor profile

This is amazing served with so many different things.
I often served mine with pita chips or lentil chips,
but for a lo-cal options try celery or red pepper.

Runway Inspired Nail Art Tutorial and a Girls Night In!

I have long loved painting my nails.
You could almost call it a hobby.
Once upon a time (before kids) I would paint my nails every night!
I glittered them, striped them, and played with colors.
When I would go to the store, I would always buy a new polish color -
usually bright pinks and reds - oh how i loved reds!
I "adopted" red as a signature color in my early 20's
(I always wanted to say I have a signature color!),
changed to nudes/pinks in my thirties,
and now, I think Nail Art my just be my thing!
Sally Hansen Runway Inspired Nails

I have to be honest, for the last year or so I have neglected my hands...
and I thought maybe this Nail Art was not for me...
maybe I was too old to pull it off, too lazy to worry about it....but oh how things change!
I do adore fashion and knowing the trends and staying current on what is hot...
so I figured I had to try it!
I played with a couple Runway Inspired looks.
I created my own runway inspired nail art
(that tutorial is a little bit further down in this post)
and the other I bought right off the shelf from Sally Hansen - the Salon Effects!

How To Make a Felt Shamrock

The last time I tried to do anything for St. Patrick's Day was about 6 years ago...and then I left the green food coloring in my purse, got on a plane and it exploded all over everything. I had green(er) money, green makeup, green hands. After that I steered clear of the greenness. Until this year. But now I feel like I have waited long enough to give St. Patrick's Day crafts and treats another shot!

Shamrock Surprise Pound Cake (recipe)

I am always a day late and a dollar short when it comes to holiday decorating. In fact, one Christmas we almost only had lights on the tree...but I am trying and for March, I am finally keeping up (kind of) with my holidays! Last week I shared the Rainbow Bunting...and now a sweet treat!
