Mirror Mirror Spa and Viewing Party

My daughter wears her dress up Snow White shoes around the house all day long. It was not surprising that when the movie Mirror Mirror was out in theaters, my daughter wanted to go and see it so badly. Somehow (not sure why) we never made it, so recently when I was given the opportunity to host a Mirror Mirror Spa Party

and viewing I jumped at the chance.

I really wanted to see the movie…I knew this would tickle my daughter…and I was going to get to throw a party for some girlfriends! Sounds like a win-win-win situation to me!

If you have not seen Mirror Mirror here is a little about it:

“One of the world’s most beloved fairy tales takes a hilarious turn in this fresh, exciting film starring Oscar® Winner Julia Roberts. After she spends all her money, an evil enchantress queen (Roberts) schemes to marry a handsome, wealthy prince (The Social Network’s Armie Hammer). There’s just one problem – he’s in love with a beautiful princess, Snow White (Lily Collins, The Blind Side). So, the sinister queen banishes Snow White from her own kingdom! Now, joined by seven rebellious dwarves, Snow White launches an epic battle of good vs. snarky in this funny, magical movie that the whole family will love.” (taken from press release)”

One of the most interesting parts of the movie – it grabbed everyone’s attention was when the Evil Queen gets her beauty treatment – fresh bird droppings as a face mask and bee stings to the lips are just a couple of the unconventional beauty treatments the queen undergoes to stay beautiful.

The PARTY

The beauty regiment inspired the Spa Party I threw to watch Mirror Mirror with my friends. I decided to forego the bees and bird droppings, and tweak the spa theme to fit our crazy “mom schedules.” Yeah, in my my perfect world, I would have had pedicures and manicures and I would have loved an Botox party (not that my friends need it…but I want it!)…but that was not in the cards.

Instead, I opted for a magical setting complete with Spa-Inspired Menu. I had so much fun making the décor and coming up with the menu! I was pretty tricky too…my daughter also had a Mirror Mirror themed birthday party 2 days later – LOVE when I can make things do double duty!

Here’s what I did for the décor: I will have tutorials for all of this in the coming week.

Hanging “garlands” of mirrors and deep red lamp shades with woodsy florals hanging from the ceiling.– Love these! So easy to make!

The lamps and mirrors looked perfect hanging over a table dressed in reds, creams

and a touch of woodsy burlap.

Mirror and paint markers used together to let the guest know what they are eating

(this is always a “biggie” for me at my parties!).

The MENU

As for the menu…I wanted to keep it healthy, light and spa-like.

I held the party during dinner so I provided some hearty items as well.

What is great about this menu is that almost everything

can be prepared in advance so you can add a few thing

and toss a salad and also enjoy our guests!

Spa Sangria (make it ahead and add the ginger ale right before the guest arrive)

Lemony Lentil Salad (I served feta on the side, but you can mix it in): This salad is best when made many hours before the party or sometimes event he day before!

Thai Cucumber Salad: This salad is best when made many hours before the party or sometimes event he day before!

Kale and Avocado Salad: I purchased washed and cut kale, and right before serving chopped up the avocado and tomatoes and dressed it.

Hummus with flat bread and carrots: All store bought (thanks you Trader Joe’s!)

Chicken apple sausage (again…thank you Trader Joe’s)

AND FOR DESSERT....

Apple Crisp and Raspberry Torte!

After much catching up and chatting (we lost track of time and started the movie a bit late!) we settled in the family room to watch Mirror Mirror.

The movie is visually amazing.

All of us were in awe of the costumes created by Eiko Ishioka.

I truly could not take my eyes of the costumes.

We all enjoyed the movie…but the costumes enthralled us.

Of course there were party favors…

Mirror Mirror water bottles, a mirror (or course!),

a nail brush, and a book mark.

Of course we had shiny red apples – how could you have a snow white anything without a shiny red apple?

There were also some activity sheets…which the adults spied…and then enjoyed!

All in all the “girls” and I had a great evening full of healthy food, sangria, and a whimsical enchanting movie – I mean who doesn’t love a fairy tale!?

Are You a Maker? A Trip to the Maker Faire

Recently I had the pleasure of attending the Maker Faire
in Northern California as part of the Delta Faucet Team.

After attending the Delta DIY Blogger event last year I have had a new found appreciation for all things faucet - the technology, the design, and that research and work that goes into making not just a faucet but an amazing line of products. It was a pleasure to see some familiar faces and work with some new faces.

As one of the sponsors of this year's Maker Faire,
Delta Faucet proves they are committed to the Maker movement and the community who lives to create and inspire and make our lives better, and more interesting!

Being a part of the Delta team at the Maker Faire was about more than faucets.
It was a pleasure to see people’s reaction to Delta's design,
technology and innovations in their field.
The Touch2O technology was especially popular.
Heck…I still am in awe of it!
I could play with water all day!

People LOVED testing their capacitance,
and taking a stab at the installation time trials –
with Delta’s EZ Anchor! So easy, even a ten year old (my boy!)
can install it in about 2 minutes
(more experienced DIYers did it in less than one minute!)
Oh, and since we are talking about Makers...
many wanted to know how they can use this same technology
in other adaptions and inventions.

I have attended the Maker Faire before so I knew what to expect...or so I thought. Attending the Faire as part of one of the Delta Faucet team put a whole next perspective on the Faire and what exactly being a Maker means. I honestly had never thought of myself as a “Maker.” Makers make amazing things...innovative things...things that use technology...things that are totally original and unique.

For two days we walked the Faire and were introduced to Makers…
many, many Makers of all kinds -
Makers that make just about anything and everything
and personify this spirit of the being a Maker and an innovator.

Her are just a few samples of some amazing Makers.
(I will be highlighting some more of my favorite Makers in the next week too!)

The Makers at the Maker Faire are passionate and curious and creative and always looking for the next way to be innovative, to improve on something, or create something completely new.

This not only describes Delta Faucet to a "T" ( or a “D”)
but it also made me realize that Makers are all around us.
I attended this Maker Faire and was part of it with new eyes..
the eyes of a Maker!
...yes I do consider myself a Maker now!

Tickled Pink No 105

Happy Almost Friday!

Hope you all had a great holiday!

We had no sun (so sad) and no fireworks...but a great time anyway.

We attended the annual chili cook-off at Rook No. 17''s

and I won "judges choice" for my white chicken chili

(which is not really mine another blogger sent it to me last year!)

and first place for my dessert

(which is also not mine..thanks Sunset!)!

I will share the scoop on that asap.

You might notice that little button up there just says 504Main again.

I will miss having Katy along for the pink ride!

It was fun and she was a great co-hostess!

I also had a girls night in watching Mirror Mirror...

and most importantly planned my sweet girls 5th birthday party.

In fact it is now after midnight and I am waiting for the cake to finish baking...

reminder to self - do not schedule a party for the day after the 4th!

So, with the holiday fun and a very important birthday party...no features yet!

GIVEAWAY and PLAY: Sound It! Found It! Board Game - CLOSED

In our house we LOVE board games.

With a 6 year age gap in kids,

they are definitley playing different games at different levels,

so the trick is finding a game we can all play together.

Recently I was introduced to Sound It! Found It! from Wowopolis

and we have had such fun playing!

At night, we like to spend some time together and

playing a board game is one way to do that!

And of course it is summer so we have extra time to play during the day!

Sound It! Found It! is a guessing game but with sounds.

First the players must identify the sound and

then quickly identify who or what that sound is coming from.

So, why is this game perfect?

#1 it is fun!

I also love listening to the kids come up with the sounds...

I am actually quite impressed with their creativity!

#2 We can all play together!

Even thought the game says it is for ages 7+, it is easily played with children younger. My (almost) 5 year old can easily play this game on her own without a "helper" (and she always wins).

It is pretty rare to find games that we can all play together with the kids age difference.

The game comes with 8 game boards and a matching set of cards for each board.

Here is a brief description on how to play...

The Sounder (player #1) selects a card without letting anyone see it.

The Sounder makes a sound representing what the picture on the card is

and the other players try to guess the sound.

"Roarrr!" (but don't say roar, sound it!)

The player that guesses what kind of sound and what that sounds represents...

but does not tell anyone, instead looks for the picture on the game board,

when that player thinks they have found the picture that "matches" the sound,

that players says "Found it!"

The player who guesses the sound correctly is the Sounder for the next round.

There are also 2 ways to make the game more challenging:

the first by using more than one card at a time,

and the second by using all of the game boards and playing the "Super Sound Round."

I love the bright colors and fun graphic on the game. And we have only played the one version of the game (it is so fun!), I look forward to playing the other versions too.
